Milky-White Laundry: The Surprising One-Ingredient Trick

How to Brighten Whites With Aspirin

There are two easy ways to put it to work.

The soak method

  • Fill a bowl or basin with hot water.
  • Add 5 aspirin tablets, about 325 mg each.
  • Let them dissolve completely.
  • Place the white garments in the water and soak for about 8 hours.
  • Rinse, then machine wash as usual.

The quick method

  • Simply add 5 dissolved aspirin tablets directly to your regular wash cycle.
  • The brightening effect is a little less intense than a long soak, but still noticeable.
